Maureen Konopelky Obituary

KONOPELKY, Maureen Carol - On April 11, 2024 the world lost a beautiful soul with the passing of Maureen Carol Konopelky (née Bray) at the age of 79 at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario.

 

Daughter to Evelyn Lafrance and Wilfred Bray (both predeceased), sister to Elaine (Gordon Ettinger), Neil and (Lorraine) Bray, Sandra and (Darcy) Paquette, Gary (predeceased) and (Edna) Bray, Hubert (predeceased) and (Lynne) Bray, Brenda Corrigan (predeceased).

 

Married to the love of her life for 52 years, Robert “Bob” Konopelky. Maureen was a loving and devoted Mother to Cheryl and (Todd) Goldin, Sue Konopelky and (Shawn Finn), Karin and (Glen) Keleher, Catherine Konopelky and (Earl Steinbrecher). Loving Grandmother of Colton and Curtis Goldin, Emma and Molly Finn, Lucy and Owen Keleher. 

 

Maureen “Kiki” lived a full life surrounded by friends, family, music, travel, and adventure. Maureen loved being in Nature. She loved to help people. She loved to garden, walk barefoot, and swim. She loved spending time at the family cottage in Sudbury on Lake Wanapitei and enjoying special moments with her family, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She also enjoyed social time while golfing, curling and coaching curling, skating and precision, and playing bridge. Maureen made friends wherever she went.

Maureen had a life of service as a Registered Nurse for 35 years. In retirement, she sat on the hospital board for many years and continued to serve the community.

 

Maureen leaves behind memories and traditions that will infinitely be in our hearts. She will be dearly missed…

 

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Hospice Wellington for assisting compassionately in the end-of-life care. The family would also like to thank the Village of Arbour Trails for supporting Maureen during her last few years.

 

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cochrane, Ontario at a later date (Summer). Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).

 

For those who are interested, donations can be made in honour of Maureen to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario or Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario.

 

A tree will be planted in memory of Maureen C. Konopelky in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
