OUR HERITAGE Cochrane Funeral Home
This photo was given to us by Mrs. Robert Smith. Many people may still remember the original Furniture Store and Funeral Home.
Robert Smith established the Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Cochrane. Mr. Smith was mayor of Cochrane in 1934, 1935, 1944, and 1945. He was a keen student in municipal affairs. He initiated many important projects. Robert Smith died in 1947 leaving his wife to run the Furniture store and Funeral Home. His son Robert Smith Jr. came back to Cochrane to help his mother in 1949. Robert met his wife Shirley who came as a nurse from Prince Edward Island. They ran the business until July 1977 when they sold the business to Wally Haw and Wayne Irvine. Thomas Duffus bought the business from Wayne Irvine in 2004. Since he has bought the business he has been doing renovations and decorating
2009 - A new era begins for the Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home Iroquois Falls and Cochrane. Jamie Rheault and Carine Deschênes are proud to be the owners of these companies almost two hundred years old that are part of the history of their respective municipalities. This young family dynamic is now at your service to assist you in this difficult time.
Mr. Daniel Johnson bought the Funeral Home from Mr. Smith in the early 80's. Mr. Johnson established himself here and built a house. He lived in the area for many years. Mr. Johnson sold the business to Nicol Malette in the late 80's. Mr. Wayne Irvine bought the Funeral Home in 1997. Mr. Irvine merged Cochrane Funeral Home and Iroquois Falls Funeral Home into one family owned business.
2004 - After several years in the funeral, the family Irvine decided to retire and sell to Mr. Thomas Duffus.
2009 - A new era begins for the Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home Iroquois Falls and Cochrane.
