In loving memory of
Douglas Young
November 14, 1945 – October 16, 2019
Passed away surrounded by loved ones at the Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane on Wednesday October 16, 2019 at the age of 73. He was the son of the late Douglas Kenneth Young and the late Edith Mae Young (nee Wilson). He will be deeply missed by his wife Loretta Blackwell-Young, his children Denise Ann (Marty) Jenson, Andrew Gundagan and Hans Young, his step-children Darrell Blackwell, James Blackwell, Percy Toal, Carroll Blackwell and Lorrie Blackwell, his siblings Kenneth Young and Donna Terrance. Doug also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.
Doug spent most of his life as a Broadcast Engineer, he started as a child building radio stations in his Mom & Dad’s basement. As he became older he went to school to learn how to be a radio engineer doing classes after days of work to various jobs he could find. He then became engineer for Tela Media and Moose FM building stations in southern and northern Ontario. He was also a DJ for Moose FM then opened his own station after returning from Moose FM. He became for over 10 years the operator of The Cochrane Polar Bear Radio. Doug will be remembered as a true radio pioneer who worked with passion and dedication but most of all for doing many free bees for the people. With great sadness in August 2019 Doug had to bring the radio off the air as he was too weak to continue what he loved the most.
