MARY ELLEN  CORCORAN (NEE WHALEN)

THE FAMILY OF MARY ELLEN CORCORAN (NEE WHALEN) ANNOUNCES HER PASSING ON WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 11, 2019 AT ANSON GENERAL HOSPITAL AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS. 

                MOM IS SURVIVED BY HER LOVING HUSBAND OF SIXTY SIX YEARS RAYMOND AND HER SURVIVING CHILDREN, DONNA (DALE) OF CAMPBELL RIVER B.C., DAVID (MARTHA) OF CALGARY, DARCY (MORLENE) OF EDMONTON,  HER SIX GRANDCHILDREN (LOGAN, COURTNEY, AUSTIN, ASHTON, CHELSEY AND NICHOLAS) AND HER GREAT GRANCHILD CYRUS AND SPECIAL NEPHEW PETER (KEVIN).  SHE WAS PRE-DECEASED BY HER CHILDREN DEAN AND DANIEL.

                MOM WAS BORN ON THE FAMILY FARM EAST OF TIMISKIMING AT THE HEIGHT OF THE DEPRESSION IN 1929.  SHE ATTENDED GRADE SCHOOL IN MATHESON, HIGH SCHOOL IN IROQUOIS FALLS BEFORE ENTERING ST. MARY’S SCHOOL OF NURSING IN TIMMINS AND GRADUATING AS A REGISTERED NURSE IN 1950.

                SHORTLY THEREAFTER SHE MET HER FUTURE HUSBAND RAY ON A BLIND DATE.  THEIR FIRST DATE TOOK PLACE AT THE CORCORAN FAMILY COTTAGE AT WILSON LAKE.  THEY WERE MARRIED ON SEPT. 5, 1953 AT ST. ANNE’S CHURCH IN IROQUOIS FALLS.

                WHEN NOT RAISING FIVE CHILDREN MOM FIRST NURSED AT TIMMINS DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND THEN ANSON GENERAL HOSPITAL.  WHEN SOUTH CENTENNIAL MANOR OPENED IN 1967 SHE JOINED THE NURSING STAFF AND EVENTUALLY WAS DIRECTOR OF NURSING FOR APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN YEARS.  SHE LOVED THE RESIDENTS AS HER OWN FAMILY AND WAS ALWAYS AVAILABLE DAY OR NIGHT TO AID IN THEIR CARE.

                MOM WAS ALWAYS GAME FOR ANY ACTIVITY DAD DREAMT UP WHETHER IT BE FISHING, HUNTING, BLUEBERRY PICKING, CURLING AND SHE ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THEIR TIME AT THE LOG CABIN BUILT IN 1995 AT WILSON LAKE.  SHE WAS ALSO AN AVID TORONTO BLUE JAYS FAN, HARDCORE DUPLICATE BRIDGE PLAYER AND RENOWNED WORLDWIDE FOR THE THOUSANDS OF PICKEREL FILLET MEALS SHE COOKED FOR ALL COMERS.

                A WAKE WILL BE HELD AT IRVINE AND IRVINE FUNERAL HOME IN IROQUOIS FALLS ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 13, 2019 FROM 7 TO 9 P.M.  THE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY SEPT. 14TH 2019 AT ST. ANNE’S CHURCH AT 11 A.M., FOLLOWED BY THE BURIAL AND LUNCH WILL BE SERVED.

                REMEMBRANCE DONATIONS TO THE ANSON GENERAL HOSPITAL WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

                THE FAMILY WOULD PARTICULARLY LIKE TO THANK THE ANSON GENERAL HOSPITAL STAFF FOR THEIR EXCEPTIONAL CARE IN HER FINAL DAYS.
