Allan Phillips Obituary

Allan Phillips, 1946-2026

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Allan Richard Phillips on March 25, 2026 at the age of 80, at Smooth Rock Falls Hospital. Allan was born on January 6, 1946, to Gordon and Dorothy (nee Loosley) Phillips.

He will be forever remembered as a loving husband to Christine, devoted dad to Angela (Ken), Theresa and Priscilla (Kingsley), and proud Grampie to seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He leaves behind brother Ronald (Linda Essig) Phillips, and sisters Catherine (Steven) Sylvester and Debra (Michael) Lemme, and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Emily and brother-in-law Edward (Jack) Addy.

Born in Toronto and living in several Ontario communities, Al landed in Petrolia as a teen, where he met and eventually married the love of his life, Christine, in 1966. After graduating from George Brown College, Al worked as a TV repairman until he and Chris settled in Courtright, where they raised three daughters and established their own business, Al's Aerials. In 1998, his reputation for being able to fix or build anything preceding him, Al became the caretaker at Lambton Centre. He later worked in building maintenance and retired in Hamilton in 2012, having relocated there to be nearer his daughters. In 2018, Al and Chris returned to small town life, this time in Smooth Rock Falls.

Al was a friendly, outgoing man who had many friends. He delighted in fishing, boating, camping, music, and riding his Harley. He cheered unwaveringly for the Blue Jays. Al had a generosity of spirit, offering employment and mentorship to others who were struggling. Above all, he was a loyal husband and loving father, always dedicated to his family. We will miss him.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Smooth Rock Falls Hospital and the Shirley & John Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre.

A Celebration of Life for our friends and family in the north will be held on Thursday, April 2, at the Kapuskasing Community Church, 1 A St Lawrence Ave, Kapuskasing. Short Service beginning at 2 pm. Refreshments to follow.

A second service will take place on April 11, 2026 at 1 PM at The Royal Canadian Legion, 4129 Glenview Rd. Petrolia.
