In loving memory of
PEEVER, Archie Albert
December 17, 1935 – August 14, 2022
Passed away peacefully at home, in the care of his family, on Sunday August 14th, 2022 at the age of 86.
Beloved husband of 61 years to Kathryn Peever (nee Sleep). Loving father of Stephen (Jocelyn) and Mark (Marian). Father-in-law of Claude St. Denis. Cherished by his grandchildren Justin (Fah), Alixandra, Caleb, Ryan (Patricia), Mara, Jonathan, Wesley, Stephanie and Adam. Survived by his sister Thelma James. Predeceased by his daughter Rebekah St. Denis, and by his siblings Ray, Carl, Luella Mabel, Preston, Lillian, Edna, Gerald, Lloyd, Howard, Mervyn and June.
Archie walked two miles each day from his childhood home to a one room schoolhouse in Commanda. He attended Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough, where he met his future bride. He established a Pentecostal Church in Nakina, where he was joined a year later by Kathryn after her graduation and their marriage in 1961. He and Kathryn pioneered a second Pentecostal Church in Longlac, where he pastored until 1979. Pastoring small churches necessitated working full-time at other jobs to support his young family. He felled and skidded trees with horses while in Nakina, and worked for a plywood mill and the Canadian National Railway while in Longlac. He also worked part-time/on-call as an ambulance driver and attendant. After moving his family to Iroquois Falls, he worked as a stationary engineer and in the finishing room at Abitibi until his retirement in 2000. He served as an elder in the local Bible Chapel, Pentecostal and Baptist congregations.
Being an outdoorsman, Archie thrived while cutting and splitting firewood, picking berries, gardening, hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping and skiing – enjoying his time all the more if shared with his children and grandchildren. His devotion to his wife and family was demonstrated through countless hours of building or refinishing furniture of all kinds - from cradles to cabinets, tables, chairs, and wardrobes (not to mention an upright grand piano). He enjoyed singing, participating in the local choir and Handel's Messiah concerts.
His final years were slowed by Parkinson's/Lewy Body Dementia, with Kathryn caring for him tirelessly so they could remain together at home until his passing. Each evening of his last days were spent listening to Kathryn play the piano, and singing along as best he could to their favourite hymns. He was a good man, and he will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
The interment was held at the Abitibi Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at Iroquois Falls Bible Chapel on Saturday, August 27 at 11am. Everyone is welcome to attend. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Iroquois Falls Access Transit or Samaritan's Purse. Arrangements entrusted to Irvine and Irvine Funeral Home, Iroquois Falls.
