Carl passed away on September 11, 2021 at the age of 87, leaving his family and friends with a lifetime of cherished memories to ease the loss.  Carl was the beloved husband of over 68 years to Helen and cherished father of Dan (Risa), Debbie, Jerry (Pauline Wieteska) and Janice Bernier (Gerry).  He leaves to mourn his siblings Pauline Boutin (Guy), Allan (Eva) and Doris Theriault (late Muriel) plus many nieces and nephews.  Dad was predeceased by parents Emily and Patrick and brothers Doug (late Lois) and Ralph (late Bella).

Carl adored and was adored by his grandchildren Melinda Cannon (Paul), Cara Bernier (Gilles Bouchard), Vanessa Cashmore, Amanda Hall (late Steffan),  Kevin Cashmore (Kristen), Cameron Cashmore (Ann-Marie) and Nicholas Cashmore (Larena).  He got tremendous joy from his great grandchildren Marissa and Noah Cannon, Brielle Bouchard, Connor and Alex Falshaw, Alivia and Grayson Hall, Brooke and Kayley Cashmore and Claire Cashmore.  He said “I thought I knew what love was when I met your grandmother.  And then we had children, and then all of you (grandkids and great grandkids) came along.”

As an avid outdoorsman, Carl loved to reel (net) in the monster pike, trap beaver, track down moose and deer, pick blueberries, cranberries and mushrooms and cut wood. 

A lifelong volunteer, Carl, along with Helen, was honoured by the Ontario Trillium Foundation for contributing over 60 years to the Porquis Recreation Association.  Carl served many years with the Cochrane Fur Harvesters as President.  He loved being invited to participate in Cochrane MNR’s annual moose count.  As well as serving on the board of the Trinity United Church and Porquis Cemetery, Carl was also an executive member of the office union where he worked for over 37 years for Abitibi, retiring as Chief Order Clerk in the Finishing and Shipping Department.

A great musician, Carl enjoyed jamming with the Porquis music club.  Having a great sense of humour, he could rhyme off jokes one after the other and often provided our family with after dinner entertainment.  When summer came Carl and Helen and kids travelled across Ontario camping at provincial parks along the way and then ventured east and west to visit the rest of Canada.  As a well deserved retirement gift, Carl and Helen hooked up the trailer and ventured to Alaska.

A loving husband, father, grampa, great grampa, brother, uncle and friend, Carl will be dearly missed.  “The Man, the Myth, the Legend” will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 9, 2021 from 12 noon to 3 pm at the Porquis Community Centre. A family Graveside Service will follow at 3 pm at the Porquis Cemetery.  ***Covid-19 restrictions in place***Proof of double vaccination is mandatory for admittance to the Community Centre.***
