Darwin Moyer Obituary

MOYER, Darwin Willard

1931-2024

D. Willard Moyer passed away on December 22, 2024 peacefully into glory at Protem Memory Care home in Moncton, NB, where he resided for the past 18 months. He was surrounded by family and caring Protem staff. He was born to Byron and Edna (Trauger) Moyer in Perkasie, PA on August 1, 1931.

Willard Moyer was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Beverly (d. Dec 10, 2020) of Cochrane ON, and is survived by 6 children, Tim (Lucy) Moyer of Cochrane ON, David (Rosemary) Moyer of Cochrane ON, Rebecca (late Sovaro) Meas of Toronto ON, Rhoda (Glenn) Martin of Moncton NB, Rachel (late James) Cheng of Orangeville ON, and Stephen Moyer of Port Dover, ON. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Earl Moyer of PA, all of whom loved him and will miss him greatly!

A memorial service will be held in his honour on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 10 am  at the Cochrane Civic Cemetery. This service will be live streamed, see the link below.

Willard sailed as one of the seagoing cowboys, taking mules over to Israel in 1951. He often talked of this voyage and experience of walking in the Holy Land. From 1953-1973 Willard and his family served the First Nations peoples of northwestern Ontario. He learned the languages, travelled many times by dog sled or canoe, built log homes for his family with simple tools and established a church before moving on to another community. He was a true pioneer. Willard always loved to tell people of Jesus as he visited in their homes. From 1973-2020 Willard lived in Hunta, Ontario where he served in many different roles. He loved the north and the people and only made occasional trips back to his homeland. “Only one life, twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

In honour of his passion to tell others of Jesus, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Christian Aid Ministries to help carry on his legacy of generosity (www.christianaidministries.ca/donate)
