David Asselin Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dave on April 13, 2026, just weeks before his 65th birthday on May 12.

Dave will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Heather (John) Bergounhon and Holly (Rolly) Haeberlein; his brother, Dale Asselin; and his nieces and nephews, Ashley Bergounhon (Jason Van Luven), Stacey Haeberlein, and Trevor Haeberlein. He was predeceased by his parents, Gwendolyn Asselin and Ken “Frosty” Asselin. He is also remembered by his cousins and close friends, including Mary Ross, who remained close to him until the very end, ensuring he was never alone.

Dave had a deep and abiding love for animals, especially his cherished pets—dogs, cats, and ferrets—who were truly his babies. In his final years, he shared his days with his beloved cats, Meadow and Whitey, who brought him great comfort and companionship. He had a passion for adventure and fun, particularly when it came to his ATV toys, including Sea-Doos. Time spent out on the water brought him a sense of joy and freedom. Dave also had a keen interest in electronics, especially televisions. He always enjoyed having the latest model and the biggest screen, taking pride in keeping up with new technology. Known for his incredible sense of humor, Dave had a gift for making people smile. It was often hard to tell when he was being serious, as he was always joking and finding ways to make others laugh. He especially loved The Simpsons and was well known for his spot-on imitation of Homer Simpson, often exclaiming “D’oh!!” Over the past two years, Dave found a special sense of purpose in swimming every day. It became an important part of his routine and a personal goal he was proud to pursue. He became a familiar and welcome presence at the pool, where staff and fellow community members looked forward to seeing him each day—and deeply felt his absence when he wasn’t there.

Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter, kindness, and unique spirit will live on in the many memories he created with family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
