In Loving Memory of
Diane Marie Hardy
July 23, 1958 – September 8, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Hardy at the age of 66. Diane entered eternal rest on September 8th, 2024 at 6PM, with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. Diane had been battling Sarcoidosis of the lungs since 2015 and contracted influenza A. She valiantly fought to recover while in a medically induced coma, on life support, in the ICU of the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. During those eight painful days her family navigated and followed the opportunity of a double-lung transplant, a process that typically takes two years. Sadly, on day 8, Diane's body couldn't fight any longer.
Diane was born on July 23rd, 1958 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, and was the youngest of four siblings. At the age of 22, Diane went on to become a Florist graduating from Seneca College in 1980. In 2008, Diane moved out west to be closer to her son David. In Alberta, she began a new career working in the kitchens of remote work camps outside of Fort McMurray. She enjoyed travelling with her companion, spending time with her son, attending sporting events and concerts and always being the best dressed. Diane accomplished all of her goals, owning a home and being mortgage free, and retiring without financial worries. Unfortunately, Diane only got to enjoy one year of retirement as a result of the flu and her underlying interstitial lung disease.
Diane was predeceased by her loving parents, Marguerite (nee Lariviere, 1993) and Donat Hardy (1981), and Brother, Ronald Hardy (1977). She is deeply missed and survived by her son and best friend David Daviau (Delanee), companion and partner Greg Ross, Sister Claudette Brazeau (nee Hardy), Brother Edmond Hardy (Claudette), her nieces and nephews, along with many friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, where Diane wishes to have her final resting place. A special thank you to Grace Memorial Funeral Home in Vanderhoof, BC, who will be completing Diane's cremation. Diane loved British Columbia and Grace Memorial is taking her for her last road trip through the Rocky Mountains. This final gesture of love and care will be remembered and cherished.
In lieu of flowers, if able, please make a donation to the University Hospital Foundation in Diane's name. This charity supports the work of the University of Alberta Hospital, which includes the Mazankowski Heart Institute where Diane would have had a double-lung transplant. We will be forever grateful to the team of over 50 healthcare professionals that worked day and night to fight for Diane's life alongside her.
