In Loving Memory of
Elizabeth Patricia Nesbitt
May 21, 1929 – September 8, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family announces her death at the Anson General Hospital in Iroquois Falls at the age of 95. She was the loving wife of Ian Nesbitt of 65 years who predeceased her on July 10th, 2016. Cherished mother of Paddy Nesbitt-Di Rienzo (Anthony Swartz) of Iroquois Falls and the father of her children Claudio Di Rienzo, Deirdre (Bob Lee) of Dorchester, ON, Rob (Nathalie Gandy) of Gatineau and the mother of his children, Colleen Chambers. She will be forever remembered by her Grandchildren; Caitlin Di Rienzo (Tom McNeill) Sean Di Rienzo (Kirstie), Jack Nesbitt (Amanda), Marty Nesbitt (Emily), and Cele Nesbitt, all of Ottawa. Remembered by Step-grandcchildren, Gabrielle and Alexis Pronovost. She is also survived by her great granddaughter, Alexandra McNeill. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, James Nesbitt and Evelyn Nesbitt (nee Hamilton). She was the sister of the late Dorothy (Tom) Welsh and the late James Nesbitt.
Our mother Elizabeth (nee Nesbitt), whose friends called her Betty, married her childhood sweetheart, Ian (another Nesbitt!) in 1956. Mum and dad moved to Iroquois Falls with Paddy and Deirdre in tow in 1963, and raised their family in this town that they both loved.
In mum’s early years here, she volunteered at the Porcupine Health Unit weighing babies. She also helped students at IFPS with remedial reading. She was an excellent seamstress and she loved to knit. We all have sweaters to remind us of her warm hugs.
Mum was an avid card and Scrabble player. She was up for any game. She was an excellent bridge player who’d often come home two dollars richer with her bridge winnings.
Mum was an excellent cook and loved to entertain her family with Sunday dinners. There was nothing better than the smell of her prime rib roast in the oven.
Although we are saddened to see mum go, we are comforted knowing mum will be reunited with the love of her life, our dad. Dad is now smiling again mum!
Cremation has taken place and in accordance with her wishes, no ceremonies will be held. Betty’s family extends our complete gratitude for the love and care mum received while living at the Manor. We also give heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sepehr and nurse Lucky and the folks at the hospital whose care and understanding at the end will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anson General Hospital Auxiliary or to the South Centennial Manor Redevelopment Fund and would be appreciated. To share your memories or to send online condolences to her family please visit www.irvineandirvinefuneralhome.com
