In loving memory of
Mrs. Evelyn Ann Shier (nee Sheldon)
May 1, 1937 – April 23, 2023
It is with sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Evelyn Ann Shier on Sunday April 23rd, 2023 at her home just shy of her 86th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Jessie Sheldon. She is survived by her sons James (Lynn) and Doug and sister-in-law Elaine. Predeceased by her husband Fred and son Tom (Lorraine). She also leaves behind five grandchildren Charlie (Chrissy), Greg (Chelsea), Laura (Mark), Jesse and Michelle (Donovan) as well as eight great grandchildren (Madison, Clara, Ava, Thomas, Callie, Emma, Everett, and Georgia). Also predeceased by brothers and sisters in law Thelma, Harry, Glen, Helen, Gordon, Jean, Olive and Bruce. Survived also by many loved nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances. Evelyn was an avid knitter, seamstress, and quilter, including being part of the Quilt’s for Cancer organization. She was an elementary school teacher (at the Hunta school, the Clute school, as well as in Cochrane) and also played an active role with the running of B&F Shier before it was passed on to her grandsons. She was also involved with the Hunta Local Roads Board (having just officially retired) and the Women’s Institute. She loved baking and making jams and pickles and was always happy to share. She won many prizes at the local fall fair for her crafts. She was a good listener having spent years listening to her husband’s tales. She is now reunited with Fred and Tom. She will be missed.
A Graveside service will be held at the Cochrane Civic Cemetery later in the spring where she will be laid to rest with her husband Fred.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and would be greatly appreciated.
