Gean, as otherwise known, was not originally from Cochrane. She was born in Brunswick Maine, on a military base in 1945.
She was known for bartending and waitressing at the Legion, Chamandys, Alberts, and Husky. She helped to run bingos at TTN, KC Hall, Legion and more. She cooked for many Creefests, and was always up for volunteering where she was needed. Many a truck drag weekend was spent dragging her daughter along to help with BBQ fundraisers, and other special events. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 89, where she held many positions including president of both the Ladies Auxiliary and the Branch.
She loved Loretta Lynn music, and loved to sing “D.I.V.O.R.C.E”. When she was in her late 60’s she decided to move back to Newfoundland, a place she once called home. This was leaving Cochrane after 30 plus years. She soon returned a few years later, realizing Cochrane was what she truly called home. She was very proud of her granddaughter Misty and spent many of her final months spending time with her and appreciative of her aid. She loved animals and was predeceased by her beloved dog “No Way”. Her cat “Cleo” who turned out to be a “Leo” is rehomed with a family friend.
In her own words she said “I don’t want crocodile tears. I had a good life. I lived it to the fullest.”
In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cochrane Public Library in her memory. She will be laid to rest at Birch Hill Cemetery, not far from her late husband Wesley Proulx and his family. There will be no visitation.
