In loving memory of
Mrs. Helen Julia Denault (nee Sobchuk)
February 5, 1933 – December 22, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the unexpected passing of our beloved Helen at the Timmins & District Hospital, at the age of 89, on Thursday December 22nd, 2022. She leaves to mourn her siblings Sonia and Gary, her children Sharon (David) Russell, Susan (James) Positano, Stanley (Solange) Denault, Kim Denault and David (Kris) Denault, her grandchildren Katie, Jessica, Anthony, Shari (Rémi), Thomas (Catherine), Alex (Brittany), Robbie (Rebecca) and Carolyn, as well as her beloved great grandchildren Angelina, Emelia, Dalton, Colton, Thomas and Brooks. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Dalton, her parents Sophia and Stanley Sobchuk, her siblings Brona, Paul, Pauline, Jenny, Alex, John, Ann, Mike and Mary, and her granddaughter Sarah.
Helen was born in Iroquois Falls into the large Sobchuk family and spent almost her entire life here. Helen was a funny, loving, and creative person. She loved travelling. painting, gardening, reading and her Art Club. She enjoyed doing crosswords, puzzles and was always ready for a good game of scrabble which she almost always won. She was a superb seamstress and excelled at making cards and envelopes for the many people she considered special. She also loved laundry…a love that grew and flourished over the 31 years she worked in the laundry department at South Centennial Manor. She was an independent, resilient and innovative individual…someone who could make a piece of left-over steak into at least 2 more delicious meals.
Helen wore many hats, but none that she loved more than those of Mommy, Gramma, Baba, Great-Grandma, and Gigi. Her loss will be felt forever; in her honour we will make sure to leave our chicken bones bare, use baking soda to tenderize meat, use vinegar to clean… and always support and cherish those we love.
Helen had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary whom she saw as the mother of us all.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 26th, 2023 at Irvine and Irvine Funeral Home from 10am to 10:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am at St.Anne’s Church followed by a graveside service at the Abitibi cemetery in Iroquois Falls. A Reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion.
