Irene Elizabeth Hannan-MacDonald (nee Walker)
September 14, 1923- August 6, 2022
Irene passed away with family by her side at the Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane at the age of 98 on Saturday August 6th, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Walker and Ellen Elizabeth (nee Taylor). Also predeceased by brothers George (Irene) Walker and Harry (Polly) Walker. First husband Doug MacDonald and second husband Marty Hannan Senior. She is survived by daughter Lorie Bigeau (Arthur), granddaughter Geneviève Bissessar (Ricky) and Great grandson Dorian Bissessar all of Cochrane, step grandchildren Martin Bigeau (Tonya) and Kurt Bigeau (Ginette) and their children all from Timmins, stepdaughter Jocelyn Fink of Copper Cliff and her children Patty Fink (Reg Bonin) and Kevin Fink. She was also predeceased by her stepchildren Camille (Andy) Noel and Phillip Hannan and survived by Camille family Christine Blazeka (Pat) and their children and Paul Noel (Michel). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews on all sides of the family. A special Thank you to her niece Leona Dumoulin.
Irene was a WW2 veteran serving in Halifax and member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch 89 Cochrane. Member of the Anglican Church of Cochrane and active in the community belonging to the Second Mile Club. An avid traveller and retired from the Cochrane High School. A true Walker who loved to walk, ski and swim.
Relatives and friends are welcome to visit at Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home, 70 Seventh Avenue South in Cochrane, on Wednesday August 10th, 2022 from 12:30 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at 3 pm at the Anglican Archbishop Anderson Memorial Church, Sixth Avenue, Cochrane with the interment to follow at the Cochrane Cemetery. Reception will be held at the Cochrane Royal Canadian Legion Hall following the committal service.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Ladies Auxiliary Branch 89 or to the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation.
