Jane (Janie) Skidmore

July 12, 1956 – May 19, 2022

It is with great sadness, and an extremely heavy heart, that I announce the passing of my mother, at the young age of 65.
Predeceased by her parents, Russell and Jean Skidmore (Nelson), and by her brother Rodney. Proud and loving mother to Amy Southward (Fox) and mother-in-law to Eric Southward. Kookum to Eve Elizabeth, Russell Peter, and baby Vera Katharine. Soul sister to Connie Murray, Vicki Skidmore and Sally Ramanayake. Foster sister to Marc Fleming. Aunty to Ryan, Rachel, Kendall and Sarah Fleming.

Mom wore many hats and worked very hard as a single mother. Starting at the MTO, then slowly taking the reins from her father at Birchill Forest Renewal Centre as the tree nursery manager. She was a councillor for the Town of Cochrane for 15 years and was the owner and landlady at Skidmore Apartments. She was an avid world traveller and always wanted to do so with her grandchildren. Mom helped establish the local girl’s hockey league and was the manager, trainer, and hockey mom for the Cochrane Foxes hockey team.
She was member of countless volunteer committees around town and in her beloved community of Brower.
Mom had such a giving personality, always thinking of ways to help. She always saw the best in humanity, even when humanity didn’t always show it.

We miss her now and we’ll miss her always.

As per her request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, there will be a celebration of life and internment at a later date.
