Katherine Devins (nee Murray)

April 29, 1950 – November 10, 2023

With heavy hearts and deepest sorrow, the family of Katherine Devins (nee Murray) announce her peaceful passing at Anson General Hospital in Iroquois Falls, Ontario on Friday, November 10th, 2023. She was 73 years young.  Kathy will always be loved and remembered by her caring husband John Devins, her precious daughter Melanie and her devoted son-in-law Tim Shields.  She adored her three beautiful grandchildren Tré, Xavier and Kalora Shields who will cherish their many memories of grandma. 

She was loved by her late brother-in-law Gordon Redican and leaves behind her baby sister Carolyn Redican.  She loved her nephews Colin Redican (Chandra) Peter Redican (Rebecca), and Stephen Redican and great nephews Ben Hatton, Nathanael, and Michael Redican.  Katherine was loved by her sister-in-law Victoria Harvey and her sons Jefferey Freeman and Duane Brown (nephews)

Grandma D is also dearly remembered by the many Stage Stars and Step’NSound Dancers past and present.  Her church families, Trinity United and Northern Lights Baptist are both grieving, but also rejoicing that she is home with her Lord.  Welcoming her in God’s Kingdom are many deceased friends, and family members including aunts, uncles, grandparents, and her parents, Kathleen Taylor and Garnet Murray.

She also has many close friends and colleagues that mourn her passing including her University Gal Pals, the Bricker Girls. Mrs. Devins was an amazing teacher, devoting 40 years of her life to Iroquois Falls Secondary School. She will be surely missed by the many administrators, staff and students who crossed paths with her in the hallways or sat captivatingly in her creative classrooms.  Her love for learning and literature was second to none and her legacy lives on in those who knew her.  She was a lady with a heart of gold and a matriarch to be admired and cherished. Rest in peace “Hun”, “Mommy” and “Grandma.” 

Visitations will be held at Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home, 641 deTroyes Avenue, Iroquois Falls on Tuesday November 14th, 2023 from 2 to 4 pm & 6 to 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Trinity United Church, Devonshire Avenue, Iroquois Falls on Wednesday November 15th, 2023 at 3:30 pm. The interment will take place in the spring at the Abitibi Cemetery in Iroquois Falls.

Donations can be made in her honour to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Anson General Palliative Care Room. 

She loved all her caregivers, doctors and nurses so very much.  Thank you.
