Porter, Larry Egbert
December 29, 1948 - April 14, 2026
It is with profound sadness that the family announces Larry’s passing after a brief and sudden illness. He is survived by his loving wife Donna (née Vlaad), his daughter Kiera and son-in-law Adam, his cherished grand-daughters Meadow (Gerard) and Summer (Leland) as well as his brother, Saunders. He will be especially missed by his furry friend, JJ. He leaves behind his sisters-in-law Linda and Valerie; his nephews Stuart, Stephen, Trevor, Travis, Kris; his nieces Sheelagh & Kayla; as well as many great-nephews and great-nieces, numerous cousins, and a dear circle of friends.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Egbert and Amy (née Mousseau), his parents-in-law Orest and Helen (née Gamble) Vlaad, his brother Rick, his son Kraig, his brothers-in-law Ramie Morin and Randy Morin, and his sisters-in-law Sheena and Françoise.
Born in Twin Falls and a life-long resident of Iroquois Falls, Larry was actively involved with his community. He was a multi-sport athlete in baseball, curling, golf, and hockey. His commitment to, and love for, the sport of hockey prevailed throughout his many decades as a player and over the years he was a coach, a referee, President of Minor Hockey, and the NOHA representative for the local region. He served as a director on a variety of boards and organizations (Credit Union, Abitibi Scholarships Council, Northern Knights Motorcycle Club, Ducks Unlimited). Larry was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and camping. Above all, he was a man who expressed his love through laughter; his family and friends will fondly remember that being teased by Larry was the surest sign that you held a special place in his heart.
To honour Larry’s life, please consider making a donation to a charity close to your heart in lieu of sending flowers. We look forward to gathering together with you to share stories and memories during his Celebration of Life on June 8, 2026. Further details will be shared closer to the date.
