Leona (Provost) Mattiussi

Mrs. Leona Mattiussi (nee Provost)
July 19, 1936 – August 25, 2025

The family announces with great sadness the passing of Leona at the Timmins & District Hospital in Timmins on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the age of 89. She leaves in mourning her children Tina (Wayne) Shier, Nancy (Yvan) Grenier, Michelle (Alfred) Holbrook, Gina (Bruce) Larstone, Tony (Francine) Mattiussi, her grandchildren Chris (Chantal), Erin(Rick), Brad (Vannessa), Tracy (Will), Katrina (Ken), Sarah (Pat), Cody and her great grandchildren Bruce, Myles, Gavin, Darrin, Elanor, Rosalie, Riley, Kenzie, Jérémy and Vincent .

Leona was the sister of Gisele (Don) Evans, Alice (late Maurice) Gregoire and Eddie (Stella) Provost. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Predeceased by her husband John ‘’Jack’’ Mattiussi, her parents Ovila and Emma (nee Lyons) Provost and her brother Marcel Provost.

Her family was her whole world — she loved them unconditionally, and she found her greatest joy in their love and company. She was the best mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend. She was truly loved by all and touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. Her warm spirit extended beyond her family, as she gave countless hours to volunteer work in the community, and was always the first to offer a helping hand. Whether at the doctor’s office front desk, serving as a justice of the peace, or supporting Aging at Home, she brought kindness and grace to everything she did. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the joy of knowing her.

The family will receive friends and family at the Irvine & Irvine funeral home, 70 Seventh Ave. South, Cochrane, Ontario on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 9:30 am to 11 am followed by her memorial service in the funeral home chapel.

Leona will be laid to rest with her husband at the Smooth Rock Falls cemetery at a later date.

As per the family request, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke foundation and would be greatly appreciated.
