Mr. Marcel Joseph Labelle

July 28,1922 - August 20,2024

With much sorrow his family announces his passing at home where he took his last breath while sleeping in the early morning hours of August 20th, 2024 at the age of 102. He leaves behind his children Darcy and Alana Labelle, his grandchildren Jennifer (Mike) Niemi, Tylan Labelle, Braydon and Blayne Carson and great grand children Jade and Jace Niemi. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters Denis, Peter, Leonard and Denise and brother and sister in-laws. He was predeceased by the love of his life Frances Labelle (Rudyk). Mother Malvina and Father Louis Labelle, brothers and sisters Gaston, Solange, Lucien, Theresa, Edmond, Jeannine, Donald, Rita, Aline and Bibianne.

Marcel was the oldest of 15 children. Marcel married his soulmate in life Frances in 1955. She was always his loving and supportive partner for over 60 years, Travelling with Marcel to countless gravel pits and all the projects that M.J. Labelle Company Accomplished throughout 6 decades. Marcel also incorporated his company in 1955 and built a small empire that thrived throughout the north building roads, highways, airports, aggregate crushing and hauling tree length wood during the winter. Marcel prided himself in employing the people of Cochrane and surrounding areas.

Marcel was very well respected in the construction association for his hard work, dedication and for having the vision of doing things the way he saw it.

Marcel and Frances wanted to continue to help the people and communities of northern Ontario so they started the Foundation that they were both very proud of donating to hospitals to be able to purchase new equipment. In 2018 they donated to the Health Sciences North in Sudbury to build a new wing which is training medical students to this day.

Marcel will have left his legacy to many people everywhere he travelled and to his dedicated employees, friends and family he will always be remembered as a humble man with a big heart!

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated jointly for Marcel and Frances Labelle on Monday August 26th, 2024 at 1 pm from the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church,  Mgr. Pierre Olivier Tremblay officiating. The visitations will take place on Sunday August 25th, 2024 between 1 to 5 pm and on Monday August 26th, 2024 between 10 am to 12:30 pm at Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home 70 Seventh Avenue South, Cochrane, Ontario.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation and would greatly be appreciated.
