In Loving Memory of
Remi George Houde
December 10, 1936 – January 20, 2026
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rémi George Houde on January 20th, 2026, at the age of 90.
Rémi lived an incredible life and was deeply blessed to share 70 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Janice. Known for his kind, gentle, and soft-spoken nature, Rémi was someone who would help anyone without question, always putting others before himself. His quiet strength and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children Chantal (Paul) Barrette, Duane (Sheila), and his late son Rock. Rémi was a proud and devoted grandfather to Abby (Noah), Kobe (Ketrina), Courtney (Tessa), Cassie, Amanda (Craig), and Ravyn, each of whom held a very special place in his heart.
Rémi was predeceased by his parents, Emile and Maria Houde, his brothers Jean-Guy, Emilien, and Germain, and his sisters Isabelle and Carmen who passed peacefully just hours after Rémi. Rémi is survived by his sisters Madeleine (Leo), his brother Leon (Margot), sisters-in-law Madeleine Nugent (George) and Pauline, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Rémi spent forty years at the Abitibi Pulp and Paper Mill, beginning as a papermaker and working his way up to a supervisory role. During these years, he was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Rémi found his greatest joy in simple pleasures and time spent with family. In his younger days, he treasured hunting, fishing, and ice fishing adventures with his children, creating memories that would last a lifetime. In his retirement years, he also loved spending hours at Tim Hortons with his buddies, enjoying conversation and camaraderie. His grandchildren meant everything to him—he could always be found cheering them on at hockey games and tournaments, attending dance recitals, and enjoying music festivals. His cottage at Mistinikon Lake was his pride and joy, where many special memories were made around campfires and boat rides. At home, he loved sitting outside with a cup of coffee, listening to the sounds of the neighborhood and watching the birds in his backyard.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated and exceptional staff at Anson General Hospital and South Centennial Manor, whose kindness, attentiveness, and heartfelt care made Rémi’s later years and final days peaceful and comforting.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Anson General Hospital, South Centennial Manor, or the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
Rémi will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, his gentle spirit, and the love he gave so freely to his family and all those fortunate enough to know him.
