It is with heavy hearts that the family announces his passing on Thu. Aug. 14, 2025 at Anson General Hospital, his home for the past 3 years. Sam was 77 years old.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin. Granddaughters: Stephanie & Marc Kotowich of AB, Kelsey Blouin & Jayme Blouin of Cochrane. One great-grandson, Kacey McGauley of Cochrane. Sam also leaves behind Carole, who for 23 years, would refer to her as his “sweetheart”, “sister” Christine Lambert (Gaby), nephews & niece: Guy, Chuck, and Julie Pépin and many cousins from Gatineau, Maniwaki & Messines, QC.
Sam was born and raised in Iroquois Falls and was part of the “Calvert Street Gang”.
Sam was a kind and generous man. He spent a lot of time curling, hunting and fishing in his younger & healthier years.
He was a retired electrician who worked at Abitibi for 32+ years.
After his brother passed away in 2015 Sam wanted to continue Maurice’s work of recycling. He approached Access Transit with an idea of collecting cans & bottles to help the organization financially. The Depot is thriving & has become a huge asset to Access Transit.
His suffering is over... the last 6 years were rough ones.. He was such a fighter.
Sam is now reunited with his parents: Véronique Pépin-Saumure and Léon Saumur (no “e”... long story), & his brother, Maurice Pépin
Not many people knew that Sam’s given name was Clément Jean Saumure. At a young age one of his Dad’s co-workers started calling him Sam and it stuck... Coincidentally, in Messines QC, where Sam’s Dad is buried, 2 of the lakes there are: Lac Clément & Lac Saumure.
In keeping with his wishes, Sam has been cremated and his ashes will be buried beside his mom at graveside service @ Goldland Cemetery in Kelso.
As per Sam & Carole’s wishes, please do not post this obituary on Facebook.
