It is on Tuesday December 28th, 2021 William Black began his journey to meet his creator from his residence in Toronto. He was born on the shores of the Abitibi Lake at the beginning of the Abitibi River on April 10th, 1950 to the late Mary Singer and the late David Black. He was a residential school survivor, attended St. Marc de Figuery Residential School near Amos, Quebec. He later attended George Brown College after relocating in Toronto where he spent most of his post residential school years. In 1987 he returned to his homeland to assume the role of Band Custodian in Wahgoshig First Nation and later worked as the Ontario Works Administrator. Following a motor vehicle accident at midlife William was forced to retire and then returned to the city. Predeceased him are his parents, son Marc Wylde, granddaughter Priscilla Black, siblings, Emily, Annie, John, Minnie, Batise, Alfred, Rosemary and Ronald. He leaves to mourn his partner Craig, daughter Valerie (Luc) Ellison,  grandchildren Lily Rose, Kevin, Kim and Jayson great grandchildren Kianna, Princess, Marcus, Calvin, Maddison and Conner siblings Shirley Black (James Nadon), Bernadette Black (Doug Morris), Edward (Margaret) Black, Raymond (late  Evelyn) Black and June Black (Francis Archibald). William will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Wake will be held on Tuesday January 4th, 2022 from 2-4 & 7-9, Wednesday January 5th, 2022 from 9-10:30 am at the Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home, 70 Seventh Avenue South in Cochrane. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated from the Transfiguration Church on Wednesday January 5th, 2022 at 11 am. In the spring William will be laid to rest in the Cochrane Catholic Cemetery.***Covid-19 Restrictions in Place***

Maximum capacity in the funeral home of 30 people will be in place and rotation may take place

Every person present must always wear a suitable mask at all times. Visitors must also clean their hands with hand sanitizer. Everyone must follow proper health and safety advice, including physical distancing of two meters for people who are not from the same household or their established social circle. No Beverages nor food will be served in the funeral home.
